Weekend Roundup: Fiddle Favorites

Well folks, how do you approach doing a light-hearted Friday blog after a senseless, despicable, horrifying display of sheer inhumanity like we saw in Aurora last night? Well, the truth is you really don’t but while our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and families that were involved in last night’s events, hopefully we can do our best to help everyone take their minds off of the heavy stuff, at least for a little while. With that said, it is that time of the week again; here are some of our favorite story lines from the week gone by.

• Is it just me, or is the Facebook vs. The World of Mobile battle beginning to feel a bit like a reality TV show? I mean it feels like just about every week a 12 new reports emerge to refute the 13 previous reports that Facebook is or is not doing well in mobile. This week was no different, as according to a report from TBG Digital, Facebook is actually out-performing its competitors Twitter and Google in its mobile advertising efforts. These reports lay out some pretty eye-opening statistics, but make sure to stay tuned for next week when the next report emerges that refutes the report that refuted the report that disputed the report that stated that Facebook was doing just fine.

• Whenever a major world power reports that mobile has surpassed desktop it is a very big deal. When that world power happens to have almost 1.5 billion citizens, well, that’s a bit bigger of a deal. That is exactly the case according to a report from the China Internet Network Information Centre. With over 520 million connected internet users, China now reports that mobile is the preferred method of browsing in the nation.
• We love it when really smart people start to say the things we have been saying for years now, and this week Marc Gardener of PayAnywhere, published an article in Forbes that could have come from our very mouths. We have been pointing out for what feels like an eternity that mobile presents an amazing opportunity like nothing we have ever seen, and Gardener seems to agree.
• If you don’t follow just about everything Stephanie Rieger does, well you are missing out on some of the most interesting ideas coming from the mobile world. We love Stephanie and yet again this week she has delighted us with a great SlideShare presentation about mobile’s effect on the world of tourism.
•BONUS: I love my iPhone, but if you’re like me you probably have always been a little depressed that your phone can’t hammer nails into a board right? No? Yeah me neither. Well, regardless of its absolute unnecessary nature, one Japanese phone maker has gone above and beyond to prove just how durable a phone can actually be. Check it out:

•BONUS BONUS: If ever there was a week that we needed a little extra fun it is this one, so enjoy this little treat. (Extra points to whoever can determine what language this is in…)

That’s it from us this week folks. Have a safe weekend, be good to eachother, and keep following FiddleFly for more news and developments in the world of mobile web.
